SAP S4 Hana Technical Development Architect

Location – Remote. This role is eligible to be performed remotely, however, if you reside within 100 miles of the corporate offices in Wisconsin, you will be expected to collaborate onsite in a hybrid fashion for 4-8 days per month. If you reside outside of 100 miles, you will travel in 4 times/year for intentional collaboration and connection.

Summary of Role
The SAP Technical Development Architect is a part of the technical team responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the cooperative’s enterprise resource planning system (SAP S/4 HANA) by providing production and project technical support. This role will analyze, design, code, deliver and sustain solutions that support the strategic objectives and vision of the business and maximizes the benefit of the cooperative’s investments. Further, the role will be responsible for developing and leading the technical aspects of the implementation and updates to the S/4 HANA / SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) system which includes ensuring that appropriate and effective data integration across multiple applications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop technical solutions and provide support for internal departments of the organization and external users.
  • Responsible for the technical analysis, design, development, maintenance, and testing of developments items within the SAP S/4 HANA / SAP BTP system.
  • Troubleshoot, Debug and resolve Break-fixes.
  • Organize and manage the technical development phases of large-scale projects and deliver quality releases on schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to fellow team members throughout the application lifecycle, including design, development, testing, and deployment phases.
  • Evaluate and stay apprised of new solutions/tools in SAP’s roadmap, investigate new techniques, and understand emerging features.
  • Create reusable components in the S/4 HANA / SAP BTP system. Partner with teams (business, IT, vendors) to define, implement and maintain solutions that enhance and automate business processes.
  • Assist with integrating third-party and custom-built boundary systems with the S/4 HANA / SAP BTP system for master and transactional data exchanges for automating business processes, building transparent and effective error handling & processing around it.
  • Develop and support the integration of multiple systems with the existing application ecosystem.
  • Oversee and participate in the configuration, customization, and development activities to ensure that those technical aspects are following SAP’s S/4 HANA development best practices and standards.
  • Develop, build, and deploy applications using SAP’s S/4 HANA / SAP BTP development methodologies, platforms, and technologies.
  • Collaborate with Business Systems Analysts (BSAs) and others to define/clarify business requirements and provide configuration and development recommendations and estimations for new or enhanced functionality to facilitate process improvement.
  • Maintain development practices (e.g., technical design, solution development, systems configuration, writing code, QA control etc.). Provide direction for architecture, design, build, and support activities required for S/4 HANA / SAP BTP.
  • Provide technical specifications for development requests to contracted developers and assign accordingly to those resources.
  • Maintain relevant functional and technical support documentation that adheres to established standards to ensure streamlined support and knowledge transfer within areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with external vendors (SAP, System Integrators, and other third-party teams) during the design, configuration, testing, deployment, and support of enterprise applications.
  • Actively participate in project activities as required and assigned by providing a broad level of technical expertise and business knowledge in assigned functional area.
  • Coordinate execution of tasks in assigned functional area.
  • Design and develop test plans, and document test cases for executing unit, integration, system, regression, and acceptance testing to ensure the solution meets the business requirements during implementations, service packs installations or upgrades.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or Information Systems required.
  • 5+ years of experience developing within SAP’s S/4 HANA ERP system.
  • 10+ years of experience as a SAP ABAP, CDS, Cloud Integration (CPI), Adobe Interactive Forms, OData Services, UI5/Fiori developer.
  • 10+ years of experience with SAP’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • Solid understanding of SAP development concepts, guidelines and SAP architecture.
  • Experience developing BAPI’s and REST API integrations.
  • Experience creating and modifying CDS views.
  • Knowledge on usage of operational support tools within SAP Solution Manager (and managed systems) preferred.
  • Experience with analysis tools like Run time analysis, SQL Trace, code inspector and SAP ABAP Test Cockpit to check the quality of the ABAP code and optimize for SAP HANA.
  • Strong technical and functional design skills as well as experience with creating repeatable processes that will support future growth with minimal customization requirements.
  • Experience designing and supporting integrations between enterprise applications and knowledge of data mapping tools and procedures.
  • Experience working with 3rd party vendors for support issues.
  • Experience translating functional specifications into technical specifications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in a variety of communication settings and styles and in terms that are understandable at all levels in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of agile methodology, and testing methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Knowledge of enterprise application lifecycle management best practices.
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to orchestrate multiple activities at once and use resources effectively.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently and accurately to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on supporting the cooperative’s goals.
  • Ability to work weekends and after business hours as needed.
  • Working knowledge of PC-based office tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.

Base salary/hourly wage range: $130-150,000 base (depending on experience)
This salary range is exclusive of fringe benefits. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary bonuses. If you are hired, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. Additionally, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that entry-level candidates to this role should expect to be at the lower end of the salary range and hiring at the maximum of the salary range is not typical.
